Beer Pong

How to Play Beer Pong

Beer Pong is a drinking game where players throw a ping-pong ball across a long table with the intent of landing the ball in a cup of beer/water on the other end. If a player makes a ball in to a cup, the opposite team must drink the contents of that cup.  That cup is then removed from play. Teams alternate turns until one team has eliminated the opposite team’s cups. The losing team must consume all the beer remaining in the winning team’s cups.

You Need:

  • 2 Teams:  1 to 4 Players each
  • Cups (usually 16oz. Solo cups) | usually 10 on each end of the table, arranged in a triangle
  • 2 ping pong balls – more is always best, they have a way of vanishing, getting dirty, and getting stepped on.
  • A table.  Regulation size is 8’x2’x27.5.
  • Friends.  Wouldn’t be much fun to play by yourself!

Game Play

Reracks are usually done as the game progresses to keep the cups packed closer together.  Common rerack points are listed below.

  • 10 – original shape, in a pyramid.  4, 3, 2, 1.
  • 6 – pyramid.  3, 2, 1.
  • 4 – diamond.  1, 2, 1
  • 3 – triangle.  1, 2
  • 2 – front/back.  1, 1
  • 1 – the last cup.

If the opposing team makes the last cup, the other loses unless they can make either all remaining cups or simply one cup, depending on “house rules” – this is called a rebuttal or redemption. In some rule sets, if the opposing team hits the last cup with both of their balls, no redemption is given to the losing team.
